Las Vegas Off The Strip Hotel Deals

Although most people believe that the old maxim “you get what you pay for” applies just as firmly to Las Vegas as it does elsewhere; however, in reality this is not necessarily the case. In fact, because so much of the Las Vegas tourist industry is based upon advertising away from the local area, there are a number of exceptions to the general idea that the quality of the hotel casino goes hand in hand with the amount of money you spend for them.

Las Vegas Strip and Downtown Hotels

On the Strip, the prices and the available discounts vary wildly as the competition between the various hotel casinos is so furious. Therefore you never can tell what is available without constantly monitoring the websites of the specific hotel casinos you have in mind. That being said, there are still some basic exceptions you should be aware of. For example, there are a few hotel casinos that are fairly shabby but whose basic price range is in the same league with much nicer places, like Excalibur or Harrah's. On the other hand, there are some places whose basic price range is below the level of comfort and service they offer and are great deals, like Stratosphere or Circus Circus.

Downtown, due to its turbulent history of decline and rebirth, has even more variation and the amount of money you spend does not actually reflect what you get. Among the excellent deals, where the basic price range is well below the level of accommodation you actually get, you should check into El Cortez or the Golden Nugget. At the same time, the downtown area also has its fair share of hotel casinos with apparent delusions of grandeur that charge their basic rates at much higher levels than their actual establishments warrant, such as the Western and Binion's. To be fair, Binion’s offers some of the best poker in Las Vegas, which is why it can get away with charging extra; whereas who knows what the owners of the Western are thinking.

Las Vegas Off the Strip Hotel Deals

By virtue of not being in the center of the tourist area (the Strip) or the old gambling center (downtown), almost all of the other hotel casinos are noticeably cheaper. That being said, there is also a lot of diversity to be found. In general, the further the hotel casino is from the Strip, the cheaper it becomes. Therefore, hotels that are just off the Strip, within a block or so – like Hard Rock or The Palms – inevitably cost more than alternative places that are considerably further away. These “way off the Strip” hotel casinos represent some of the best deals Las Vegas has to offer, so look into places like Sam's Town Hotel and Gambling Hall and the Boulder Station Hotel Casino.

Among some of the better overall values to be found off the Strip are the Gold Coast, the Silverton and The Orleans. Each of these places keep their basic price ranges well below most of those found on the Strip, though they offer service and accommodation that are clearly in the same league. A bargain hunter that is more interested in gambling than in fighting the crowds and watching the shows should seriously look at these places. Unlike the Strip or Downtown, where a hotel casino may be able to stay in business based almost solely on its location, this is not the case for most off Strip places, so most offer good value for the money.
